Pros
- HDR-capable IPS panel
- High performance with 240 Hz
- Good choice of interfaces
Cons
- G-Sync not included
With the Philips Momentum 5000 27M1N5200PA, you get a monitor with an obvious direction: responsive gaming at the e-sports level. The monitor costs comparatively little but has also been cut back in some areas. Full HD is still okay on a 27-inch screen, but it is understandable, primarily because of the strong performance. The Philips achieves a brute 240 Hz at its peak, which is an insurmountable hurdle for your PC system at resolutions higher than Full HD. The effective image synchronisation method G-Sync is sorely missed at such refresh rates, but at least AMD FreeSync is on board as a workaround.
The IPS panel shows good colour reproduction and is bright enough for direct sunlight. However, it is not bright sufficient to reproduce convincing HDR content. Thus, the panel is HDR-capable, but the effect remains only slight in the end. Two HDMI 2.0 and one DisplayPort 1.4 are expected, but the four additional USB-A sockets are a nice extra. Thanks to a very flexible mechanism in the stand, regular gaming sessions are no problem for the neck and shoulders.
