The IrriSense 2 works, and the app-drawn zones are its real argument: being able to aim watering at a specific border or line rather than simply soaking a lawn is genuinely useful, and the reassurance it offers when the house is empty in summer is the point of the whole exercise. It is not a subtle device, though. It is large, it must be tethered to both a socket and a hose, and its reach rises and falls with household water pressure. For a single, contained garden it is a capable and well-thought-out gadget; for anyone who would need several units, the recorded conclusion is that a conventional hose with diffusers, ordinary sprinklers, a timer and perhaps a smart plug does much the same job.

The Aiper IrriSense 2 is a smart sprinkler that sets out to do for the garden what robot mowers and pool cleaners have already done: take a job that used to need a person and hand it to an app. It has no water tank and no solar panel. It needs a mains socket and a hose, and in return it offers remote control over watering sessions for a lawn and for whatever planting falls inside its radius.
It is not an essential piece of kit, and the recorded test is candid about that. Its real value shows up when the house is empty for a few days in summer and manually watered plants would otherwise be left to fend for themselves.
Setup is close to plug-and-play
The unit arrives assembled, with nothing to build. In the box are a quick-start card carrying a QR code for the app, four stakes for fixing the sprinkler to the lawn, hose adaptors and a ten-metre power lead with an IP68 rating. Choosing a spot is the only real decision. Holding down the single button on the body triggers instant Bluetooth pairing with the app, after which Wi-Fi is configured so the sprinkler can be controlled from away. Close to the unit, control continues to run over Bluetooth. The 2.4 GHz aerial impressed during the recorded test, with notably strong range.
Placement is trial and error
Finding the right position is the tedious part. The built-in gauge reads up to 100 psi, but in the recorded test, using an ordinary hose without a booster pump, pressure never rose above about 30 psi. Real reach therefore depends on the pressure available at the tap and on the hose itself. In that test it worked out at roughly ten metres in a straight line.
The head rotates through a full 360 degrees, but geometry still gets in the way. Placed in a corner it failed to reach the extremes of the lawn and could not work around a tree that blocked part of the arc, so it had to be moved to a spot where it covered almost all of the grass and, more importantly, the border that mattered most. For anyone who needs to alternate between two positions, the box includes a marker that fixes the second spot precisely, which avoids having to redraw the watering zones in the app every time.
There is one thing the marketing does not show: the cables. In all but one promotional image the sprinkler appears to work by magic, with no hose and no power lead crossing the grass. Because some rival products do run on a tank and solar power, it is easy to assume this one does too. It does not, and the recorded advice is not to place it in the middle of a lawn, where the hose and lead will get in the way at mowing time. Unplugging it is easy enough, but having to do so repeatedly defeats the object.
The app is where the work pays off
Time spent configuring the app is time well spent, and there is not much mystery to it. Each watering zone comes with its own tutorial, which only has to be followed once, and up to ten zones can be created, adapted by plant, by seasonal water demand and above all by the exact point being targeted. Using the phone as a remote control, the jet can be aimed at a specific spot, or an area can be marked out by adjusting length and position to create an automated zone. When watering an area, the sprinkler starts at the outer edge and steps the pressure down as it works inwards; after that it is simply a matter of setting times and days.
One gap remains. Within an area, there is no way to exclude an inner circular patch so that it receives less water, or none at all.
Spray quality and pressure
Getting the most out of it means watching for leaks at both the device connection and the household tap. Any loss there costs metres of reach, which adds up to a large bite out of the covered ground when watering by area. If pressure is insufficient, the sprinkler itself raises a warning. It is also notably quiet: the spray is audible, but there is none of the mechanical clatter associated with a conventional sprinkler.
Two nozzles are supplied, a standard one and a low-pressure alternative. Aiper describes the output as rain-like so that it does not erode the soil, and at closer range it behaves that way. At the far end of the pattern, though, gravity takes over and the droplets land noticeably harder, so the recorded advice is to keep delicate plants out of the ten to twelve metre band. Alongside the rain sensor, granting the app weather permissions allows watering to be skipped when strong winds are forecast, which matters here: the spray is finer than a normal sprinkler's and drifted outside the marked area even in a light breeze.
The magnetic compartment
At the base of the cylinder is a magnetic section designed to hold a branded additive pouch, SoilPulse, whose dispersion is configured in the app. That pouch was not part of the recorded test. For anyone uninterested in additives, the compartment doubles as somewhere to keep the spare nozzles and hose adaptors so the box can be thrown away.
Watering performance in summary
Judged on results, the IrriSense 2 came across as a solid option for garden care. Even without ideal pressure, the diffusing nozzle did its job, watering the intended area and going further thanks to the point and line controls. Where a lawn is already covered by conventional sprinklers, the argument for adding this one rests on those specific, programmable watering points rather than on raw coverage. The reservations are consistent: it is big and conspicuous, the height being necessary to throw water further, and area watering would benefit from more flexible boundaries.
