Our Verdict

With the Scuba V3, Aiper is no longer content simply to remove the cable; it is trying to give its robots a measure of judgement, and after three months that claim does not look entirely overstated. In a segment where almost every model claims an intelligence derived from sensors alone, a genuine camera remains rare, and AI Patrol really does change how the machine works by sending it after debris instead of merely crossing its path. AI Navium and the weather analysis add automation that feels more credible than a marketing line. It is still hard to state outright that the robot learns the pool: several behaviours clearly refined over the weeks, notably on the staircase and around the return jets, without it being possible to separate learning from adaptive navigation or a simple evolution of its trajectories. The Scuba V3 does not rest on that promise alone, though. Suction is effective, the waterline well handled, the app easy to pick up and the endurance sufficient for reasonably sized pools. The 3.5-litre bin is tight and the arrangement of the two filters deserves a rethink, but this remains a convincing pool robot whose most interesting functions make the most sense over time.

The Aiper Scuba V3 is a cordless robot for in-ground pools, rated by its maker for basins of up to 150 m². Where earlier Aiper machines navigated with infrared and ultrasonic sensors plus a gyroscope, detecting walls, steps and obstacles only as they met them, the V3 is the first in the range to carry a camera and to claim that it seeks out what it cleans. It was left in the same 40 m² pool from mid-May for close to three months, long enough to judge whether the adaptive behaviour Aiper promises actually appears.

Design, handling and setup

The body is a lacquered shell with anthracite flanks and stubby tracks, and the assembly inspires confidence: thick plastics, panels sitting flush without play. It measures 44.4 x 38 x 21.8 cm and weighs 8.25 kg dry, almost two kilograms less than the Ecovacs Ultramarine P1. That gap sounds trivial until the robot has to come out of the water by hand, either by its moulded handle or with the supplied retrieval hook, which has to be screwed onto a pole of your own.

Movement comes from two wide, deeply cleated tracks tensioned over large rollers, which held grip dependably, including on the walls. Under the chassis sit two brush rollers, each driven by its own motor, scrubbing the lining while two pumps draw in whatever they loosen. A single button in the centre switches the machine on; everything else runs through the Aiper app, with Bluetooth handling the initial pairing and Wi-Fi taking over for settings and notifications.

Physics imposes one hard limit: radio does not travel through water. Any customisation has to be set before the robot goes in, because once it is on the floor no further instructions reach it. Nor do those connections produce a map. Where a Dreame Z1 Pro draws a plan of the pool that can be consulted in its app after the robot surfaces, the Scuba V3 offers nothing equivalent.

The camera, and how the robot actually cleans

Behind an oval porthole sits a forward-facing camera, flanked by two LEDs that earn their keep under a cover or in deep water. Aiper claims recognition of more than twenty categories of debris, from a dead leaf to a grain of sand, with the trajectory adjusting accordingly.

In the default Auto mode that ambition is muted. The V3 still works methodically across the floor and then the walls, scraping the waterline in passing as it rises, and the camera limits itself to avoiding obstacles. Over the opening weeks in Auto, pebbles deliberately placed in the four corners of the pool were never singled out; the programme stayed conventional, with occasional detours that did not damage coverage. Roughly two-thirds of the floor was treated before the robot moved on to the walls, a sensible split that stopped it retracing its own work.

The dedicated waterline mode convinced immediately. The robot climbs to the waterline, scrapes the wall, then travels sideways until it detects a change of wall, which is more efficient than machines that drop back down between each section. Greasy deposits and sun-cream marks need that mode specifically; skimming the water surface itself is reserved for the higher Scuba X1 Pro Max. Adhesion faltered only when crossing return jets.

A corner staircase gave more trouble. Its four 28 cm steps were initially read as an ordinary wall, and the robot repeatedly stalled at the first one. After several sessions the height was assimilated and it climbed and cleared the first three; the last, too shallowly submerged, was never treated properly.

Suction and filtration

Vacuuming is the one area the adaptive software does not complicate. The lid tips open with a single press to release a 3.5-litre bin. Inside, two stages divide the work: a main sieve quoted at 180 microns takes the bulk — leaves, twigs, insects, gravel — while a MicroMesh cartridge rated at 3 microns handles pollen and the suspended fine particles that cloud water.

The pump moves 18.2 m³/h, placing the V3 in the sound middle of the field: ahead of the Maytronics Liberty 600 at 15 m³/h, well behind the Beatbot Sora 70 at 25 m³/h and the Dreame Z1 Pro at 30 m³/h. Results held up regardless, with leaves, insects and clumps of gravel or soil generally disappearing within a single cycle.

Two reservations stand. The MicroMesh sits in front of the main sieve, so it receives water first and catches large debris before the filter meant for that job — hard to justify, especially on a heavily loaded pool early in the season, where it makes more sense to run a first cycle without it and refit it afterwards. The bin itself, meanwhile, matches the capacity of the far simpler Scuba S1 while rivals run between 4.5 and 6 litres.

App, scheduling and the adaptive features

The app does not drown the user in settings. Its home screen shows battery level, robot status and a carousel of cleaning modes; floor, walls and waterline can each be run on their own. The fifth mode, AI Patrol, is exclusive to the V3, and it is the one that changes the machine's character, because the camera then guides movement rather than merely avoiding obstacles.

Scheduling offers three cadences: 45 minutes for four cleans a week, 60 minutes for three, 90 minutes for two. The more intriguing option is AI Navium, which is meant to use the pool's dimensions, the cleaning history and local weather to prepare forthcoming cycles on its own. It ships disabled and requires three boxes to be ticked — weather analysis, self-adaptive cleaning and usage-habit analysis. Until one is enabled, the button that generates a schedule stays greyed out and nothing is planned at all.

What changed across three months

After the first month the three AI Navium boxes were ticked and the robot set to AI Patrol on the floor, then left alone for four weeks with no intervention beyond rinsing the filters and recharging.

The clearest change came from AI Patrol itself. Where Auto unrolled its sweep without ever looking up, the V3 now headed for the most heavily loaded zones, took the large debris first, swallowed it, then resumed its sweep. The test pebbles were no longer met by chance; the robot went to find them.

Its approach to the staircase was revised too. Rather than persisting where it could not hold, it worked horizontally and used its own wash to dislodge the dirt, returning to vacuum it once it had fallen to the floor. The return jets, which had occasionally shaken it loose early on, were afterwards avoided as a matter of course.

Weather handling stood out as well. Connected to Wi-Fi while out of the water, the V3 can take in adjustments derived from local weather data and shift its schedule. Programmed for the following morning, it started the previous evening immediately after a downpour; three notifications of that kind arrived across July. The option can be unticked if you would rather keep control of the timetable.

Battery, charging and upkeep

A 150 Wh lithium-ion battery supports a claimed 180 minutes of running. On a 40 m² pool, endurance never became an issue, and with AI Navium active the cycles shortened by themselves, the robot surfacing to signal as soon as it judged the job done.

The 150 m² figure deserves care. Aiper presents it as a compatible pool size, never as an area covered per charge. A complete cycle over 40 m² of floor and walls took between 160 and 200 minutes, so a larger pool inevitably means spreading the work across several sessions. A full recharge takes five hours, which is on the long side. The V3 does come with its own charging dock, with no plug and simply two contact pads, which avoids handling a connector after every swim and makes winter storage in a garage straightforward.

Upkeep comes down to the bin: a rinse with a hose after almost every cycle, a job of a few minutes. Aiper treats the MicroMesh as a consumable, to be replaced roughly every thirty uses.

Who it suits

On a pool of moderate size with awkward corners, a staircase and regular leaf fall, the Scuba V3 makes a coherent case. Its strongest features are the ones that only show themselves after several weeks of use, so it rewards owners willing to enable the adaptive options and leave the robot to settle in rather than those who want a fixed, predictable sweep from day one. Anyone with a large basin should plan on splitting the work across sessions, and anyone who wants a stored map of the pool, or a bigger debris bin, will find that elsewhere in the category.
