Best Cat Brushes 2026: Which Should You Buy?

Cat brushes may look alike, but their pin beds, gloves, rakes and cleaning mechanisms behave very differently. The recorded test covered 31 brushes over several weeks to months with three cats, comparing fur capture, grip, cleaning and construction.

What follows is recorded testing, translated. Nobody at Truthful Reviews has used these cat brushes. This guide makes no animal-health, coat-health, welfare or grooming claim; it reports mechanisms, materials and observed product behaviour only.

What separates the brush types

A self-cleaning slicker uses fine metal pins and a movable grid. A rear button pushes the grid towards the tips, releasing collected fur as one layer. Weak versions exposed bent pins, stiff buttons and uneven assembly.

Grooming gloves replace a rigid head with rubber or silicone nubs. Better pairs came in distinct sizes, supplied one for each hand and used fabric between the fingers to catch escaping fur. Poorer gloves were oversized, stiff or poorly stitched.

Dematting rakes use rows of metal teeth and collected dense underfur efficiently, though fur had to be lifted from them by hand. Steam brushes add a refillable chamber, diffuser and USB charging; noise, mist quality, filled weight, control placement and outlet clogging separated them. No cooling or hydration conclusion is drawn here.

One maker's 90% hair-removal promise was not validated by the observed work, so it is not treated as a result.

The picks

Best overall — Secwell Fellbürste für Langhaar und Kurzhaar

The Secwell Fellbürste für Langhaar und Kurzhaar is the most complete ordinary brush in the field. It is very light, with a large head and fine metal pins that curve slightly forwards. Each pin ends in a small plastic bead, while a grey slotted grid sits around the pin bed.

The wide button on the back drives that grid forwards. In testing, it pushed the accumulated fur into a compact layer that could be lifted away in one piece. The simple handle also worked: its plastic-silicone surface gave a secure hold without becoming tacky, and it attracted less loose hair and dust than heavily rubberised rivals.

It captured loose fur across the recorded coats and remained consistent through the test period. Its limitation is containment rather than brushing performance: some loosened hairs stayed on or floated above the coat instead of landing in the head. The concealed return mechanism and the fine pins are possible long-term wear points, but neither failed during the recorded test.

Best steam brush — Pecute Katzenbürste 2in1 mit Dampf

The Pecute Katzenbürste 2in1 mit Dampf combines a conventional pin head with a refillable water chamber and two steam settings. A supplied dosing bottle fills an opening in the head, a rubber cap closes it, and a small USB-C-to-USB-A cable handles charging. An LED shows the charge state.

It was the quietest steam model in the group and captured a substantial amount of fur, including dense loose underfur. Its light body remained manoeuvrable even with water inside. The control layout is less successful: the steam switch was pressed unintentionally during brushing. On the tested unit, individual pins also bent when the cleaning grid moved, sometimes catching in it, and the pin ends sat just beyond the grid so one press did not release every hair.

Best grooming gloves — Cooljob Pet Grooming Gloves

The Cooljob Pet Grooming Gloves arrive as a proper left-and-right pair rather than one universal glove. They come in two sizes, although each size is tied to a colour. Flexible nubs of different lengths cover the palms, and fabric panels between the fingers sweep up loose fur instead of leaving gaps between five separate rows.

That construction captured more fur than most gloves in the field, including around the smaller contours reached by the fingers. The trade-off is cleaning: the collected layer did not peel away as readily as it did from the strongest self-cleaning brushes. The upper polyester fabric also felt less refined than the material used by the Dr. Zoo pair, but the Cooljob's finger panels and flexible form made it the stronger glove design overall.

Best dematting rake — Trixie Fell-Entfilzer

The Trixie Fell-Entfilzer is a light, robust rake with stainless-steel teeth. It removed a notably large amount of dense underfur in the recorded work and passed through compacted sections in steady strokes. The frame and handle remained solid, with none of the bent-pin or loose-head problems seen elsewhere.

Cleaning is manual rather than button-driven, though the accumulated fur could be gathered from the teeth relatively easily. This is a specialist metal-tooth design rather than a direct substitute for the Secwell's fine everyday pin bed, and its place in the recommendations comes from its strong underfur-removal result and durable construction.

Also tested

One Pets-Top FurFriend — this rechargeable steam brush was quieter than the Ixyhkb, and its button-driven cleaning worked well; the filled head became heavy, the handle was smooth, the power button was conspicuously loud and the reservoir could leak when the brush rested in the wrong orientation. A dosing bottle, multilingual instructions and a USB-A-to-USB-C cable were supplied. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US

Kerbl MagicBrush — a very light, horse-brush-shaped model that was easy to hold and steer, but its pointed, unrounded plastic bristles collected almost no fur in the recorded work. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US

Tiaki Katzenbürste Brush & Click — a smaller, lighter self-cleaning slicker with a round head and rear pressure plate; its metal pins bent quickly and caught in the grid, while the plain plastic handle was notably smooth. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US

Kooa Doppelseitiger Pflegehandschuh — one side carries silicone nubs of different thicknesses in a paw-shaped pattern and the other uses a lint-brush-like mesh; the glove was large and stiff, and the delivered sample already had a small hole where the mesh had separated from a seam. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US

Petnovia 4in1 Katzenbürste — despite the name, the flat egg-shaped body holds three interchangeable brush heads, with its cap presented as the fourth fur-storage function; the heads repeatedly detached during use and all three brushing mechanisms produced only middling results. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US

LucyBalu Katzenbürste — a small natural-bristle head on a wooden handle that was easy to hold and direct; its bristle surface filled after only a few strokes and it picked up little fur. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US

HomePetWorld Doppelbürste für Hunde und Katzen — a dark wooden, double-sided brush with black natural bristles on one face; both sides had almost no practical effect on the three medium-length coats used in the recorded test. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US

Dr. Zoo Fellpflegehandschuh — a well-made left-and-right pair offered in small, medium and large, with elastic nylon backs, hook-and-loop wrist adjustment and prominent thermoplastic-rubber nubs; it captured a lot of loose fur, and the collected layer could be tapped off or peeled inwards from the edges. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US

Trixie Softbürste 24131 — its compact head and flexible metal pins captured even light floating hairs, but the fur was laborious to remove because there is no self-cleaning grid. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US

Ace2Ace Haustierbürste — the sample arrived damaged, with one small pin pushed forwards and a discoloured dent in the cleaning grid; its button squeaked and resisted pressure, pin heights were inconsistent and dirt collected in gaps left by the uneven assembly. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US

Furminator Striegel — a horse-curry-comb form with a strap for the middle three fingers and ribbed side grips for the thumb and little finger; the hard, pointed rubber nubs collected very little hair and the hand position felt poorly controlled. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US

Ixyhkb Cat Steamy Brush — this handleless model has hard rubber-like nubs and a smooth shell; its loud diffuser clogged quickly with hair and then dripped rather than misted, although it did collect short, bristly fur. A USB-A-to-USB-C cable was included, but no instructions. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US

KaraLuna Unterfellbürste — a solid double-sided blade rake whose principal drawbacks were its relatively high weight and an unremarkable handle; its mechanism and result were competent without distinguishing it from similar rakes. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US

Trixie Weiche Bürste — made from 100% smooth plastic, including the tiny handle and the bristle field; the bristles bent quickly and did not spring back, the grip was difficult to hold and hardly any fur was collected. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US

Zewze Hunde- und Katzenbürste — light and easy to turn thanks to its round head, with a cleaning button requiring very little force; the short pins picked up only a small amount of hair and the handle shape offered limited support. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US

Zivacate Cat Brush Dog Brush — a self-cleaning slicker with a paw-print handle and a sensibly sized head; it was heavier than necessary, fur accumulated almost entirely on the lower half of the head, but its cleaning mechanism worked very well. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US

Bluepet UnterwollGlück Kurzhaar Katzenbürste & Hundebürste — notably light and straightforward to handle, but its abrasive, dragging feel coincided with root-attached individual hairs appearing among the collected fur rather than loose hair alone. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US

Furminator Deshedding-Tool Katze Größe M/L Kurzhaar — a large, heavy tool with a rigid metal-tooth edge; root-attached hairs appeared between the teeth after strokes, while a sliding blade guard released collected fur and residue quickly built up between the teeth. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US

Furminator Deshedding-Tool Katze Größe S Kurzhaar — the smaller version was easier to steer than the M/L tool but otherwise used the same hard tooth edge and sliding cleaning blade, with the same tendency for residue to collect between the teeth. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US

Moser Entfilzer — its gel handle attracted dirt and was difficult to wipe clean, while the side-mounted dematting blade made the grip feel unusual; the metal rake still worked through dense knots in the recorded long-haired coat. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US

Moser Zupfbürste — the same tacky gel grip collected dust and dirt, its metal pins had relatively soft resistance and picked up a moderate amount of loose hair, but clearing that hair from the head was slow. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US

How they were assessed

The full field was assessed over several weeks to months while three cats moved from winter to summer coats. The useful comparison points were whether each design performed its stated mechanical purpose, how much loose fur it captured, how readily that fur came off the brush, and the quality of the pins, bristles, seams, buttons, handles and interchangeable parts.

Those observations are narrower than a care recommendation. Only mechanics and recorded product behaviour inform this guide. Price-to-performance was also part of the original scoring, but every monetary amount and market judgement has been excluded here.

Verdict

The Secwell Fellbürste für Langhaar und Kurzhaar wins because its light body, broad pin bed and effective push-grid cleaner solve the ordinary mechanical job with the fewest compromises. The Pecute Katzenbürste 2in1 mit Dampf is the better-equipped steam option, though its easy-to-hit switch and bending pins are real drawbacks. Choose the Cooljob Pet Grooming Gloves for a flexible left-and-right pair, or the Trixie Fell-Entfilzer when a robust metal rake and strong underfur capture are the priority.
