A fly screen must cover the opening without obvious gaps while allowing the window to close. Across 28 screens, the fixing mechanism mattered as much as the mesh: hook-and-loop products were adaptable, cut-to-size frames looked neater but demanded more assembly, and made-to-measure frames traded flexibility for precise fit.
What follows is recorded testing, translated. Nobody at Truthful Reviews has used these products.
The Tesa Insect Stop Klett Fliegengitter is the winner, the Mückenmeister Fensterfliegengitter Basic covers large windows, the Kesser Fliegengitter mit Aluminiumrahmen is the aluminium-frame choice, and the Insetto Florida arrives made to measure.
Which type of fly screen fits the job?
Hook-and-loop screens press trimmed polyester or fibreglass mesh onto adhesive tape. They fit many openings and add little thickness, but even tension takes care. The mesh comes away readily for washing; aligning the cut piece again is harder.
Aluminium kits retain mesh in a separate frame located by clips or hangers. They look tidier and lift out as one piece, but profiles and fixing points must match the opening. Assembly quality separated the best frames from the frustrating ones.
Magnetic systems use either small fittings on bare mesh or strips around a light frame. They detach readily, although added thickness interfered with some windows. Retractable screens add a cassette and rails, but require a more involved build. Black or anthracite mesh gave the clearest view; pale mesh was more noticeable.
The recommendations
Best overall — Tesa Insect Stop Klett Fliegengitter
The current Tesa winner is the unchanged product formerly sold as Insect Stop Standard. UV-resistant polyester mesh attaches to a thin self-adhesive strip. The tested anthracite sample measured 130 × 150 cm, with three other formats recorded.
Fitting took 38 minutes. The tape held, no visible gaps remained and the window moved normally. Anthracite preserved the view better than pale mesh. The screen detaches for washing at 30°C, though refitting it is laborious and cut edges can fray.

Best hook-and-loop screen for large windows — Mückenmeister Fensterfliegengitter Basic
This model combines black fibreglass mesh with an unusually broad adhesive strip, about 14 mm wide. The source records formats of 130 × 150 cm, 170 × 180 cm, 120 × 240 cm and 130 × 450 cm, so it covers much larger openings than most simple mesh packs. A pressing aid and cutter are included.
The mesh felt robust, visibility remained good and the broad strip kept its grip where several rivals came loose. It is washable, removable and neater than most screens using the same fixing method.

Best aluminium frame — Kesser Fliegengitter mit Aluminiumrahmen
Kesser uses an adjustable aluminium frame, anthracite fibreglass mesh and shaped metal hangers rather than adhesive. Assembly involved cutting four profiles, adapting the hangers, joining the corners and pressing the mesh into the frame. It took 1 hour, 46 minutes and 15 seconds, making this one of the slower products to build.
The frame sat squarely, the mesh was taut and crease-free, no visible gaps remained and the window closed normally. The dark material was barely noticeable, while the whole frame lifted out cleanly. It is effectively the same construction as Juskys, but occupies the current recommendation slot.

Best made-to-measure option — Insetto Florida
Insetto manufactures the Florida to the submitted window dimensions and delivers it almost complete. Four angle tabs are the only frame parts left to attach. That reduced assembly to 3.5 minutes, with the complete screen seated after about 5 minutes and no correction required on the test window.
Its aluminium frame, clean joints and evenly tensioned mesh were among the best finished. Fold-flat handles aided removal, visibility stayed clear and the mesh is replaceable. Exact dimensions limit transfer to a matching window, making this the premium choice for minimal assembly rather than adaptability.

Also tested
- MLEJU Magnet-Fliegengitter Fenster — its paired magnetic strips made the mesh removable, but tensioning was awkward and took 54 minutes 23 seconds; even an 8 mm recess exceeded the stated 7 mm minimum yet the test window would not close cleanly. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US
- Jarolift 2 in 1 Insektenschutzrollo Volaris — a top cassette and two guide rails produced a taut, solid retractable screen after 1 hour 17 minutes 33 seconds, although the handle clearance was poorly explained and the whole assembly was visually prominent. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US
- EASYmaxx Insect Protect Teleskop-Insektenschutzgitter — the telescopic click-spring frame expanded without cutting and was ready in roughly 5 to 6.5 minutes, but the elastic mesh tore slightly and its coated hooks impeded one plastic window while failing to locate on an older wooden one. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US
- Tesa Insect Stop Falt — a connected aluminium frame unfolds before being adjusted to the opening; the 26-page guide looked daunting, yet the video made the sequence clear and the firm mesh suffered only minor tearing around the corner fittings. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US
- Juskys Fliegenschutzgitter mit Aluminiumrahmen — essentially the same cut-to-size aluminium design as Kesser, with narrow metal hangers and mesh retained by a rubber strip; construction was time-consuming, but the finished frame sat firmly and could be removed and refitted. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US
- Tesa Insect Stop Klett Fliegengitter Premium — the former Insect Stop Comfort keeps its product number under this new name; its fibreglass mesh comes in five sizes, including 130 × 150 cm, washes at 30°C and took about 30 minutes to fit, while the supplied cutting tool tended to tear it. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US
- Windhager Magnetfenster 03525 — thin aluminium profiles were quick to shorten, magnetic retaining strips held the mesh around the frame, and the apparently light magnets remained attached because the complete screen weighed little; it also came away and went back readily. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US
- Windhager Fenster Plus 04327 — a rigid aluminium frame with clamping strips and metal hanging springs felt robust and detached without leaving residue, but the many small parts and profile work made assembly demanding despite a clear guide and supporting video. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US
- Hoberg 07660 — 16 adhesive magnets, 16 pin holders and 16 caps make its dense, lightly elastic mesh easy to detach once built, but aligning all those points against a flexible sheet made even tension particularly difficult. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US
- Jarolift Insektenschutz Spannrahmen Slimline — massive frame profiles and a supplied multitool promised a solid result, while the tiny, almost wordless diagrams left the assembly sequence much harder to decipher than the related Juskys system. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US
- Easy Life Elastic Fliegengitter — elastic polyester mesh and hook-and-loop tape about 1 cm wide adapted readily to the frame, but the tape held only moderately and the instructions described the screen as non-reusable after one year. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US
- Yangte Insect Stop — the pack contained four screens, a cutter and a brush; the adhesive was specified to cure for 12 hours, but after the mesh went on at roughly 5 hours it detached the following day, while the non-elastic material tore easily by hand. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US
- EASYmaxx Magic Klick — 12 magnetic modules, a 150 × 130 cm mesh and only 11 matching pieces arrived in the box; the remaining fittings still held with no visible gap, although the stiff mesh tore readily and the older test window no longer shut properly. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US
- Apalus BF005 — the 130 × 150 cm white mesh used adhesive hook-and-loop tape; its small supplied cutter frayed and displaced the material, whereas trimming first produced a tidier result, but the pale mesh remained much more visible than darker alternatives. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US
- Rollmayer Fliegen14 — the 130 × 130 cm frame kit also came in five other recorded sizes; confusing diagrams, a mismatched screw and awkward corner sealing stretched assembly to about one hour and left the finished frame with less hold than intended. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US
- Gauder Fliegengitter mit Klettband — three black 130 × 180 cm meshes and three adhesive strips made a functional pack; one screen took 20 minutes, though the thick tape initially made the window difficult to close and it remained slightly stiffer after a week. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US
- Aloha Fliegengitter — this fixed-size frame came in anthracite, brown and white across five kits from 60 × 80 cm to 130 × 150 cm; it held well on a sufficiently large opening, but its dimensions did not match any complete test window. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US
- Empasa Fliegengitter Master Slim — sold as raw, pre-cut or fully assembled versions, with formats from 80 × 100 cm to 150 × 160 cm and a required 12 mm surrounding support; light parts and an inaccurate template caused the raw-kit build to be abandoned. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US
- Empasa Fliegengitter Fenster Start — the frame profiles bent during cutting, the corner pieces began shaving away as they were inserted, and assembly stopped before a stable frame existed; a pre-cut version was noted, but not a fully assembled one. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US
- Tesa Insect Stop Alu Comfort — this adjustable aluminium frame arrived with many parts and several fit ranges for its hanging hooks; the retaining cord needed exceptional force even after the method in the instructions was tried, though the incomplete build looked extremely substantial. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US
- Windhager Flexi Fit 04306 — the QR link did not work, the nearly text-free guide and large set of small parts remained confusing, and no correctly fitting frame emerged after several hours, even with additional experienced help. Search Amazon UK · Search Amazon US
How the screens were assessed
Products were unpacked, checked for complete parts and assembled against their supplied instructions. The recorded assessment covered material quality, clarity of the instructions, assembly difficulty and elapsed time, then checked how precisely each screen met the window frame. Adhesive and magnetic products were examined for grip and stability during ordinary window use; complete frames were also assessed for removal and refitting. Window closure and outward visibility were checked after fitting.
The latest round used plastic-framed windows, while older entries had been examined on older wooden frames. That difference matters when reading a fit failure: a hook or magnetic block that interfered with one frame is an observed compatibility result, not proof that it will behave identically on every window.
Verdict
The Tesa Insect Stop Klett Fliegengitter remains the most broadly useful choice: simple parts, adaptable dimensions, a relatively discreet dark mesh and a washable panel outweigh the care needed to tension and refit it. The Mückenmeister Fensterfliegengitter Basic is the better hook-and-loop route for unusually large panes. Choose the Kesser Fliegengitter mit Aluminiumrahmen when the cleaner look and removable solidity of an aluminium frame justify a long build, or the Insetto Florida when made-to-measure fit and minimal assembly matter most.
