Honor's MagicBook 16 is a deliberately pragmatic machine. It is a big, 16-inch portable aimed at office work with occasional multimedia use on the side, and its two headline components — a large-capacity battery and a current-generation processor — are meant to keep it running away from a mains socket for a full working day.
The tested configuration is built around a straightforward specification rather than technological ambition. Its 16-inch IPS panel runs at 1920 x 1200 pixels and 60 Hz, while an Intel Core Ultra 5 is paired with 16 GB of memory and a 512 GB SSD. Honor offers more powerful and better-equipped versions of the MagicBook 16 in China, but those are not the configuration assessed here.
Build and layout
The MagicBook 16 is a family laptop in the fullest sense. The chassis is undeniably imposing, at 1.66 kg on the scales and 1.6 cm thick, so this is a computer designed to live on a desk rather than to be hauled about. It is built entirely from aluminium and carries a sizeable Honor logo on the lid. It presents well, and the build quality appears to be there, though only time will settle that question properly.
Opening the lid reveals the large 16-inch panel with its matt finish, along with a keyboard that includes a numeric keypad — welcome for anyone who spends time in spreadsheets. The keyboard itself is very comfortable to type on and pleasingly rigid, the keys are backlit as expected, and the power button doubles as a fingerprint reader.
The trackpad, offset slightly to the left, is modest in size; considerably larger surfaces have appeared on chassis of this format. The glide is faultless, but the clicks travel a little too far and are fairly noisy.
Connectivity of the wired kind is this machine's strong suit, with no fewer than two USB-C ports, two USB-A ports, an HDMI output and a mini-jack socket distributed across both sides of the chassis. An SD card reader would have made it a clean sweep.
Wireless is more conservative. Honor has fitted an Intel AX200 chip providing Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1. There is no 6 GHz band, so no Wi-Fi 6E, and certainly no Wi-Fi 7 — a regrettable omission on a machine released in 2026.
The webcam uses a Full HD sensor with fairly average results; the image lacks detail, and the absence of an infrared sensor rules out Windows Hello face recognition. The processor's integrated NPU offers some consolation, since the Windows Studio Effects — automatic framing, eye tracking and background blur — are available.
Cooling is sized to match the chip's thermal envelope of 25 W at base and up to 55 W at maximum, so the architecture relies on a single heat pipe linking the processor to the radiator, cooled by one fan. The advantage of that moderate configuration is that even under full load the MagicBook 16 stays remarkably discreet: the recorded level was a little under 35 dB at 50 cm from the screen after 15 minutes with the processor at 100%.
Performance
The tested configuration carries an Intel Core Ultra 5 325 with 16 GB of memory and a 512 GB SSD. That processor uses Intel's latest Panther Lake architecture with eight cores reaching up to 4.5 GHz.
The Core Ultra 5 325 works no miracles, returning a performance index of 66. In practice, though, the MagicBook 16 is a capable machine. It handles every everyday office task without complaint and can, as a secondary duty, re-encode a video, put together an edit or retouch photographs.
The processor's graphics section carries four latest-generation Xe3 units. That is a long way short of the twelve units found in the top graphics configurations, but it does mean the Core Ultra 5 325 supports the same technologies. Accelerating 3D renders in Blender is possible, as is running games with full graphics-driver support, provided detail settings are kept modest. Shadow of the Tomb Raider, used to gauge integrated graphics performance, ran at 30 fps at 1920 x 1200 on Very High settings; enabling Intel's XeSS upscaling improves smoothness without much loss of quality.
Storage comes from YMTC, and it is quick, posting 5.7 GB/s reading and 4.9 GB/s writing. No significant slowdown appeared while transferring the 130 GB of data the test protocols require.
Display
For the French version of the MagicBook 16, Honor has chosen an unremarkable 16-inch IPS panel running 1920 x 1200 pixels at 60 Hz. When the machine was announced in France there was initially talk of a 2560 x 1600 panel at 120 Hz, which is not what this configuration provides.
Display measurements found distinctly inaccurate, drab colours: the recorded delta E was 6.4, well beyond the threshold of 3 at which the human eye starts to notice colour drift. Worse, no calibration profile is available in Honor's software to correct the problem.
Colour temperature runs slightly warm at a measured 6,958 K against the 6,500 K ideal for the video standard, though nothing about that is disqualifying. Contrast was measured at 1,155:1, a typical figure for IPS technology, which naturally cannot deliver the absolute blacks of an OLED or mini-LED backlit panel.
Maximum brightness comes in at 330 cd/m², which is no more than average. The MagicBook 16 is rescued by the matt coating on its screen, which defeats the great majority of reflections without needing the backlight pushed to its limit; measured reflectance was 20%.
Audio
Honor has given the MagicBook 16 two speakers positioned either side of the palm rest, underneath the chassis. That placement is not ideal, since the sound depends directly on the surface the laptop is resting on, and the openings are easily obstructed when it is placed on something soft such as a sofa or a blanket.
Listening tests found that the MagicBook 16 acquits itself well. The presentation is reasonably balanced if short on warmth, and above roughly 70% volume the sound begins to distort. The bundled Nahimic software applies a range of effects; the sensible approach is to leave it switched on but strip out the default gains applied to bass and treble, and to disable the surround effect.
The headphone output, finally, is beyond reproach: distortion is imperceptible, dynamic range is high and crosstalk is low enough to produce excellent stereo imaging. The one shortcoming is an output level too low to drive high-impedance headphones properly.
Battery life
The MagicBook 16 (2026) carries an 80 Wh battery, a substantial capacity that lets it shine in endurance testing. It ships with a 65 W charging brick much like those supplied with smartphones — a compact unit accompanied by a USB-C cable of decent length.
With a current-generation processor and that 80 Wh cell, the machine had everything it needed to stand out, and it does. With the screen set to 200 cd/m² on an advanced office-use simulation, the laptop lasted 10 hours and 40 minutes. That is an excellent result, and it means the charger can genuinely be left behind for a full working day.
Repairability and upgrades
Getting inside means removing four Torx screws, after which the shell unclips fairly easily with the help of a suction cup.
Once open, there is little that can actually be upgraded. The SSD uses the widespread M.2 2280 format and the battery is entirely accessible, but the memory is soldered, as is the Wi-Fi card — all the more unfortunate given that it is limited to Wi-Fi 6. Honor could have used the space to the left of the battery for a second M.2 slot to expand storage, but chose not to.
