Reaches edges and under overhangs

The Philips OneUp XV5113/01 is a first-class electric floor mop that wipes away everyday stains in short order and scores with thoughtful handling — and even initial assembly is pleasingly simple.

Mopping Without the Bucket

The Two-Bucket Problem

Traditional mopping is a ritual of bucket and wringing, and by the second dunk the supposedly clean water has turned to dirty water — hence the two-bucket method. Electric floor mops offer the alternative: motorised pads or rollers do the work while fresh water doses from a tank automatically or at a button press, and some devices route dirty water into a separate tank as you pull back. The goal is bucket-free mopping with proper moisture control, down to a barely damp mist for delicate floors. These hard-floor cleaners are the compact relatives of wet-dry vacuums: they mop actively, but pick up no solid debris and make do with smaller tanks.

Handling and Tanks

Design

The OneUp goes for a flat, mop-like form and coherent tank handling. Fresh and grey-water tanks are easily accessible, and the integrated dosing bottle squirts the right amount of cleaner into the tank at a press. Pulling backwards routes moisture into the dirty-water tank. Two water levels span intensive scrubbing on tiles and sealed hard floors to mist-damp wiping on delicate surfaces — and in a practical cleaning course, heavily soiled patches needed only five to eight strokes.

Reach and Running Time

The head geometry reaches edges cleanly and slips under overhangs — a wall-hung toilet, say — better than round-plate designs. Filling and emptying both tanks takes fewer movements than most rivals demand. The battery charges briskly over USB-C, where many competitors persist with awkward proprietary connectors; a power bank can top it up on the go. Running time matches the manufacturer's claim of up to 70 minutes, enough for around 160 square metres even with children and pets raising the dirt level.

What It Does Not Do

As an electric mop, the OneUp collects no solid debris — crumbs, hair and cat litter want vacuuming first. There is no self-cleaning station either: pads go in the washing machine after use and need drying time. The effort is small, but it exists, and spare pads are not included in the box. The device works with Philips' own OneUp floor cleaner, plain tap water or any non-foaming liquid cleaner, though the manufacturer recommends its own for performance and longevity.

Verdict

The Philips OneUp XV5113/01 wins on simple handling and practical construction, with the two water levels and dirty-water pickup sealing a convincing showing. Buy spare pads alongside and accept that vacuuming remains your job — then this is bucket-free mopping at its most pleasant.
