Ecovacs releases new machines at a brisk pace, and the T series is its favourite playground: the premium mid-range, where a robot has to approach flagship capability from a tier below.
Unveiled at CES 2026, the Deebot T90 Pro Omni succeeds the T80 with progress claimed on every front. Suction climbs from 18,000 Pa to 30,000 Pa, the mopping roller grows longer, and obstacle detection takes a large step forward. On paper it ticks so many boxes that it almost invites suspicion: it vacuums, it mops, it maintains itself, it keeps an eye on the house and it slips under furniture. The underlying source test covered several weeks of use in a real home.
Design: the turret has gone, and that is a good thing
Ecovacs has reworked the styling for this generation. Both the robot and the dock use a textured shell that is softer on the eye and to the touch than the usual smooth plastics, so the pair look less like industrial white goods and sit more naturally in a living room. That is a subjective judgement, but a persuasive one.
The real change is on top, or rather in what is missing from it. The laser rangefinder is built directly into the chassis instead of sitting under the turret that crowns most robots. Height is therefore held to 9.4 cm, below the category average, and the difference shows immediately in daily use: the T90 slides under a sideboard, a sofa and a TV unit without ever catching, where turret-equipped robots have to turn back. It was one of the most appreciated aspects of the test.
Underneath sit the ZeroTangle 4.0 main brush, a fixed side brush and, above all, the OZMO Roller 3.0 mopping roller: 27 cm long, turning at 200 rpm, with a lateral extension to reach skirting boards and a 15 mm lift when it crosses carpet. The one blemish is the onboard dust bin, which tops out at 250 mL, a capacity well below average. The robot compensates by returning to empty itself at the dock more often.
The dock: comprehensive, and clever about charging
The Omni dock does everything expected of a high-end base: automatic emptying of the bin into a 2.5 L bag, filling and draining of the robot's water tanks, automatic detergent dosing, roller washing with hot water at 75°C, and warm-air drying at 63°C. That is a particularly high washing temperature, which helps dissolve greasy residue and keeps odours off the roller.
The smartest idea is called PowerBoost. Every time the robot comes back to wash its roller mid-cycle, the dock takes the opportunity to top the battery up quickly, with around 10% recovered in three minutes according to Ecovacs. Washing time, normally dead time, becomes charging time. Combined with frugal energy management, that gives the T90 very comfortable endurance: in the test home it completed full cycles, vacuuming and mopping included, without ever running flat or imposing a long recharge pause.
App and control: very rich, a little too dense
The Ecovacs app is unusually deep. Room-by-room settings, suction power, water flow, number of passes, cleaning order, roller washing frequency, auto-empty frequency, even a mopping direction that can follow the grain of a wooden floor: the level of customisation is among the most thorough around, and anyone who enjoys fine-tuning will be well served.
The flip side is legibility. There are so many options that they end up scattered: some functions hide in unexpected places, others look like duplicates, and the interface has a few rough edges, between unclear labels and screens that do not always follow logically. Nothing is a deal-breaker, but getting to grips with it takes an adjustment period that direct rivals do not necessarily impose.
Ecovacs also leans heavily on its AI assistant, a built-in chatbot meant to configure the cleaning for you from natural-language requests. The intention is sound, but in use it proved superfluous and, paradoxically, more complex than a good menu: phrase a sentence, wait for the reply, check what was understood, correct it. Setting the same thing directly in the interface is quicker nine times out of ten. A chatbot is simply not the right interface for driving a vacuum cleaner.
One genuinely good point to finish on: the front camera can be reached remotely. From the app you can see live what the robot sees, drive it manually around the home and even hold a two-way video call, which is handy for reassuring a pet or checking that a door is shut. The robot therefore doubles as a mobile stand-in security camera, a feature some flagship rivals still do not offer.
Mapping and navigation
Initial mapping is quick and faithful, with convincing room segmentation that needed only marginal adjustment. The integrated LiDAR, backed by the AI camera, 3D structured light and an LED lamp for dark areas, produces calm navigation: the robot works methodically, edges first and then the centre, without the erratic to-and-fro still seen on some of the brand's other models. Ecovacs claims threshold clearance of up to 4 cm.
Obstacle detection: the ultimate test passed
This is the area where the Ecovacs T series disappointed for a long time, and the progress here is spectacular. Shoes, bags, toys and pet bowls: the T90 identifies and cleanly steers around almost everything scattered in its path. More importantly, it passed the test every pet owner dreads. During the test period it detected a mess left on the floor and carefully avoided it. That is the disaster scenario for a robot vacuum, the one that turns an incident into a catastrophe smeared through the whole house, and the T90 came through without fault.
The picture is not flawless, all the same. The robot did get caught once on a cable lying on the floor. It did not happen again, and cable detection works in the vast majority of cases, but it is not infallible. As ever, a no-go zone over the densest nests of wires remains the best insurance.
Vacuuming: strong on hard floors and short pile
The claimed 30,000 Pa puts the T90 on a par with 2026's flagships on paper, and the behaviour on the floor follows. On hard floors, dust, crumbs and bulkier debris disappear on the first pass. On rugs the robot detects the textile, increases power and delivers a very good result on short pile and fitted carpet, one of the strong points of the test. Thick carpets, on the other hand, reveal its limits: the brush struggles to agitate the fibres deeply and it lacks a little power to dislodge what has worked its way to the bottom. Adequate, no more; homes carpeted throughout in long pile will want a cordless stick vacuum alongside it.
Noise stays under control. The robot makes itself heard without ever becoming intrusive, including when it ramps up on carpet. You can share a room with it without raising your voice, which is not true of every machine with this much power.
A word on the small 250 mL bin: in practice the robot goes back to empty itself several times per cycle, and the auto-empty frequency is adjustable in the app. No loss of suction from a saturated bin was observed, but very hairy households will have to accept those extra trips.
Mopping: the roller is the highlight
The OZMO Roller 3.0 is a success. Rinsed with clean water continuously as it turns, with the dirty water collected separately, it does not carry grime from one room to the next: it picks the grime up. Everyday dried marks such as coffee, paw prints and kitchen splashes come away in a single pass, and the floor dries quickly behind the robot with no film or streaking. The roller's extension does good work along skirting boards and kitchen units, and the 15 mm lift spares rugs during mixed cycles. After several weeks of this, the mop and bucket stayed in the cupboard.
Maintenance: a robot that looks after itself
The promise of a machine that vacuums, mops and cleans itself is largely kept. The ZeroTangle 4.0 brush earns its name: after weeks of use in a home with a pet, there was no hair or fur wound around it and no need to reach for the scissors. The side brush unclips in one movement to remove a stray thread, and the roller comes out of the dock's maintenance cycles close to new thanks to the 75°C wash.
Day to day, upkeep comes down to three infrequent jobs: refilling the clean-water tank and emptying the dock's dirty water at a rate that depends on the area mopped, changing the 2.5 L bag after several weeks, and brushing out the roller washing tray, where some residue collects, every two to three weeks. The app tracks the state of the consumables, brushes, filter and roller, and warns when a replacement is approaching. Ecovacs' own detergent is dosed automatically, and the supplied bottle lasts several weeks before it needs replacing.
Where it sits
Few robots combine a mopping roller of this calibre, a fully equipped dock, a remotely accessible camera and a profile low enough to pass under furniture. That combination is what makes the T90 Pro Omni a mid-ranger with very little to envy in the flagships, provided thick, long-pile carpet is not the main floor covering.
