Motorola Edge 70 Fusion: A Nylon Back That Charms
Verdict (26 March 2026)
The Motorola Edge 70 Fusion focuses on a slim, elegant design with a pleasantly light housing. In testing, the mid-range phone convinces alongside its high-quality feel with solid technology. The roughly 6.8-inch OLED display delivers sharp images, very smooth motion, and a high peak brightness that allows good readability even in sunlight. Inside, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 does not deliver top-tier values, but allows quick and reliable operation in everyday use. The large battery lasts up to 19.5 hours in testing and brings the Edge 70 Fusion safely through the day. By cable, the smartphone is quickly fully charged again, but wireless charging is not available. The dual camera does without an optical zoom, but delivers appealing results overall. The overall package is rounded off by good stereo speakers, current wireless standards, IP69 certification, and solid software. The guarantee of three major Android versions or five years of security updates until 2031 should ideally exceed the legal requirements — even at a starting price of around 420 euros.

Motorola Edge 70 Fusion in Testing: All-Round Elegant
As with its predecessors, the Motorola Edge 70 Fusion particularly puts its elegant exterior and high handiness in focus. With a weight of just 177 grams, the 6.8-inch smartphone impresses on first touch. The high-quality fabric back in nylon or linen look provides a good grip, and the thickness of just 7.2 millimetres also impresses, especially for those carrying the phone in a trouser pocket. According to the IP69 standard, the housing protects the internals safely from damage by dust and water.
OLED Display Quality
Despite its elegance, the Motorola Edge 70 Fusion also convinces technically in testing. This begins on the front with the 6.78-inch OLED display. With thin display bezels, a high resolution beyond the Full HD standard, and smooth motion at up to 144 Hertz refresh rate, all content makes a very good showing here. Colours and contrasts are also pleasing. The fact that the Edge display bends slightly around the side edges gives the front a slightly three-dimensional, high-quality look — but this remains a matter of taste.
Brightness in Testing
The brightness of the surface also scores points in the test laboratory. If the light sensor is brightly illuminated by sunlight, for example, the Edge 70 Fusion increases its brightness to over 2,000 cd/m² ("nits") when displaying a full chessboard pattern. Theoretically, even a maximum value of an impressive 3,840 nits is possible. That would be strong even in higher price ranges. Either way, the content on the Motorola display can therefore also be easily recognised outdoors.
Solid Everyday Performance for Many Hours
The processor integrated in the Motorola Edge 70 Fusion, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, provides consistently solid performance.
Everyday Use
In everyday use, you can navigate through the Android system without any major problems, and multitasking is also no problem.
Demanding Tasks
Larger tasks such as 4K video editing or 3D gaming are only possible with compromises in loading times or graphics quality, but for the price class this is completely acceptable. In the stress test, performance remains stable over several minutes and the housing does not become disturbingly hot.
Battery Endurance
Although the battery is significantly smaller at 5,200 mAh than the 7,000 mAh variant sold in other countries, the Motorola Edge 70 Fusion achieves great results in the runtime test. You can get through everyday life without any problems. In the standard procedure, it withstands continuous use of up to 19.5 hours.
Charging
By cable, it is fully charged again in around an hour and was usable again for over 12 hours after 30 minutes. However, the mid-range device lacks support for wireless charging.
Competent Camera With Clear Compromises
The dual camera of the Motorola Edge 70 Fusion uses a 50-megapixel main lens, supported by a 13-megapixel ultrawide camera with macro mode. However, an optical telephoto is missing. Zoom is therefore purely digital up to a factor of ten, which leads to very blurred scenes.
Image Quality
Apart from the zoom, the Motorola camera allows very appealing pictures. Although the colours are often chosen somewhat too strong and punchy, the photos can convince overall with a nice level of detail and successful presentation even in low light. Particularly without HDR, however, fairly strong image noise is noticeable in dark areas and details are drawn too smoothly. Compared to the Motorola Edge 70, the Fusion variant makes neither great progress nor regression here.
Video Recording
We film in 4K at only 30, but in Full HD at least with smooth 60 frames per second. The image stabilisation and audio quality do quite a good job for the price class.
Front Camera
The 32-megapixel sharp front camera also convinces and allows detail-rich selfies with appropriately vivid colours.
Solid Standards for Modern Wireless Connectivity
The further technical equipment of the Motorola Edge 70 Fusion delivers modern standards such as Wi-Fi 6E, 5G mobile connectivity, and even Bluetooth 6.0, which allows precise location of nearby trackers and devices.
SIM and Storage
The device also supports both a physical Nano-SIM and the digital eSIM card. For dual SIM, the two types must be combined rather than used twice. Storage expansion via microSD is not possible. As a cable interface, the standardised USB-C with USB 2.0 standard is used.
Security Features
For security, in addition to the classic code entry and the surface-level 2D face recognition, a fingerprint sensor under the display is provided. As an optical sensor, it briefly lights up when scanning, but works quickly and reliably in testing.
Audio Quality
The stereo speakers are well suited for simple social media content, but for films and music there is clearly a lack of fullness.
Software and Updates
Android 16, which is preinstalled at launch, can be used pleasantly at any time and is not overloaded with self-made Motorola apps. We did not notice any advertising in testing. The manufacturer promises updates only for the legally required five years from the start of sale — until 2031. Major feature updates, however, should already end in 2029.
How Smartphones Are Tested
The independent test centre evaluates smartphones across the categories of equipment, operation, and battery. The test winner of a category sets the best score with a school grade of 1.0; all others adapt to it. Battery life is measured in a worst-case scenario where a test page including embedded video is refreshed every three minutes via the LTE network of Deutsche Telekom. The display brightness is set to 200 cd/m² for the measurement. The display refresh rate is set to 60 Hz for comparability.
Comparison Notes From the Sub-500 Euro Test Field
The Motorola Edge 70 Fusion is positioned alongside its predecessor (Motorola Edge 60 Fusion), the top recommendation (Xiaomi Poco X8 Pro Max), the value pick (Xiaomi Poco F7), the best alternative (Xiaomi Poco F8 Pro), and the best camera phone (Google Pixel 8 Pro).
Motorola Edge 60 Fusion
On a large diagonal of just under 6.7 inches, the OLED display has plenty of space for many pixels and a smooth 120-Hertz presentation. The brightness in testing breaks no records at up to 1,642 cd/m², but is sufficient for good outdoor readability. The back is also available in pink and dark blue alongside the turquoise tone. The faux leather is particularly pleasing. At first glance, the dual camera is irritating due to the additional round light sensor and round flash. With a thickness of only 11.4 millimetres, the Fusion is pleasantly thin even at the cameras and is also very lightweight.
Xiaomi Poco X8 Pro Max
The MediaTek Dimensity 7300 processor provides everyday performance, but lags noticeably behind in 3D gaming. The battery provides a runtime of over 17 hours in testing. Nevertheless, it is fully charged again after just over half an hour. The photo app offers little new, but is also clearly designed because of this. The zoom is purely digital and magnifies a maximum of factor ten. Thanks to a high resolution of 32 megapixels, the selfie camera also makes a good showing in testing. Thanks to macro, a nice bokeh effect, and realistic colours, the dual camera can convince in quality in testing. Even larger subjects or those in shaded areas like the chair are captured successfully by the dual camera. Particularly the atmospheric, yet realistic colours and the successful blur effect are pleasing. The software clearly helps with the purely digital, ten-fold zoom. In ultrawide, details such as grass are quite heavily smeared.
Pixel 8 Pro Comparison
Compared to the Google mid-range, Motorola offers a clearer view, but lags slightly behind in details. Anyone who prefers realism is still very well served by the colour rendering of a Pixel phone. However, the Motorola photos are not too punchy either. Compared to one of the best phone cameras, Motorola can keep up with the bokeh, but not the details. An alternative 50-megapixel mode does not bring much more detail. However, since the software optimises less here, more realistic colours can result.
Xiaomi Poco F7 / F8 Pro
The OLED display measures over 6.8 inches. Content is presented sharp and contrast-rich, the high brightness improves outdoor readability. The main camera resolves at 50 megapixels, the ultrawide lens has eight megapixels. A telephoto camera is missing, however. With a weight of about 218 grams, the Max model sits well in the hand for its size, also thanks to the flat sides. The processing seems high-quality and robust. At the same time, the smartphone sits comfortably in the hand. The housing is protected according to IP68. Water and dust can do little harm to the device. The large battery offers an unusually high capacity and is quickly charged again in testing despite this. The 6.6-inch OLED display shows content razor-sharp. Movements are presented pleasantly fluid thanks to 120 Hertz. The display remains easy to read even with direct sunlight. The high brightness particularly pays off here. The user interface always reacts smoothly. Animations present themselves softly and without stuttering in the HyperOS system.
